Wine News' review ofDoc Colli Euganei Merlot I Sentieri 2018
„A line inspired by the paths that cross the Euganean Hills, dedicated to the relationship between man and nature. The „I Sentieri“ (meaning “The Paths”) labels tell of the green soul of Monte Fasolo, the second investment of the Rossi Luciani family on the hills in the province of Padua, right next to the first estate, Le Volpi. The acquisition of Monte Fasolo in 2017 marks the beginning of a renovation and enhancement of the winery and the surrounding area with a strong focus on sustainability. The vineyards – about 70 hectares – will be certified organic from the 2022 harvest and bring the total vineyard area of the property to 95 hectares, out of a total of 200 hectares of woods and olive groves crossed by trekking paths. The route of the path that crosses Monte Fasolo passing through the cellar has been chosen as a symbol for the labels of I Sentieri. The Merlot Colli Euganei Doc 2018 is the result of a 15-day maceration followed by a passage in concrete vat for malolactic fermentation, matures in French oak tonneaux for 12 months and then refines in 15 hl barrels for a year. It is a soft and sensual wine, with an intense and deep ruby red color. The nose offers deep aromas of black cherry, notes of bitter cocoa, nuances of carcadè and wild herbs. Full-bodied and well rounded on the palate. The tannin is a light veil and its warmth releases tones of licorice and gentian, prolonging the sip.“
